The Abbotsford Pilots took down the Langley Trappers by a score of 4-2 on Friday night at MSA Arena to take Game #1 of their first round playoff series. The two Harold Brittain Conference foes meet by way of seeding, Pilots with the 4th playoff seed and the Trappers with the 5th. The night was highlighted by a two-goal effort from Baylee Wright, and goaltender Keaton Dyck credited with the win.
The Pilots wasted no time to start the postseason as Brady Morton (1) roofed a shot over the shoulder of Kristian Lyon, assisted by Jamie Housch and Cameron Obcena at 1:06. The Pilots second goal was scored at 3:40 by Baylee Wright (1). The initial call was no goal as referees allowed play to continue before overturning the call after the next stoppage, nearly two minutes after Wright’s shot found the net. Jamie Housch (1) scored his clubs’ third of the night after a tic-tac-toe play from line mates Roy McClure and Cameron Obcena, the eventual game-winning goal. The Trappers got on the board on the power play from Brendan O’Grady (1) at 17:14 with assists from Braden Warburton and Casey Whintors.
Shots: 13-7 Abbotsford
Abbotsford’s three-goal lead was restored by captain Baylee Wright (2) and his second of the evening. Wright’s linemates, Jake de Waal and Allan Gekhman, both had helpers.
Shots: 10-6 Langley
The lone goal in the final frame wasn’t enough for the Trappers as Trevor Sundher fed Dustin Withrow (1) at 3:46 on the power play once again to make it a 4-2 game. Including the regular season, the past seven goals against the Pilots have come on the man advantage.
